Yankees rumors: No contact with Aubrey Huff

The New York Yankees are in the market for a corner infielder following injuries to Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez, but the club has yet to reach out to free agent first baseman Aubrey Huff, according to Andy McCulloughof The Star-Ledger.

Yesterday it was reported that the Yankees have reached out to multiple veterans -- some who have already announced their retirement from baseball -- in their effort to add a corner infielder. The list includes free agents Derrek Lee and Scott Rolen as well as former Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones.

However, Huff was not among the players contacted by New York. After having his 2013 option declined by the San Francisco Giants at the end of last season, Huff said recently that he's "pretty much retired."

After playing a integral role on the San Francisco Giants' World Series-winning club in 2010, Huff struggled in 2011 and only appeared in 52 games in 2012.

Huff garnered National League MVP consideration in 2010, hitting .290/.385/.506 with 35 doubles, five triples and 26 home runs. He went on to struggle to the tune of .246/.306/.370 over 579 plate appearances in 2011, and was limited by knee injuries and an anxiety disorder last year. Over 95 plate appearances for San Francisco in 2012, the 36-year-old only mustered a batting line of .192/.326/.282.
