Aramis Ramirez injury: Brewers' third baseman strains knee

Aramis Ramirez had to leave today's spring game against the Los Angeles Angels with a knee injury. The Milwaukee Brewers third baseman suffered a left knee strain. Tim Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says Ramirez is day-to-day and will likely miss a couple games. However, there does not seem to be a lot of concern from the team.

Ramirez had two at-bats in the game before he had to leave. He connected for a double in the third inning then was pulled and replaced with Martin Maldonado as a pinch runner. Ramirez appeared to have injured the knee while coming into second. The Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke confirmed the knee injury happened when Ramirez jammed his leg into the second base bag.

Ramirez will be a key part to the Brewers' offense this season. Any success they have will likely lead back to the production of Ramirez and Ryan Braun. Last year, the Brewers were the most prolific offensive team in the National League. Much of this had to do with Ramirez.

In 2012, Ramirez hit a surprising .300/.360/.540 with 27 home runs. It was a continuation of Ramirez's bounce-back. Over the last three seasons, Ramirez has hit 25 or more home runs. In each of his last two seasons, Ramirez has hit over .300.

Last year was Ramirez's first in Milwaukee. He spent the previous nine years in Chicago. He was granted free agency in October of 2011 and eventually signed with the Brewers in December of 2011. The deal with the Brewers was for three years and worth $36 million.

Ramirez has spent a total of 15 years in the Majors. In his career, Ramirez has hit .285/.343/.503. He has always been a relatively productive hitter. Aside from a few down years, Ramirez has consistently helped the teams he's been a part of.
