Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder Adam Eaton will miss the next six to eight weeks with a left elbow UCL sprain, the team has announced.
More DBacks: Missing Justin Upton. Or Not.
Eaton exited a spring training contest earlier in the week after sliding hard into third base, but manager Kirk Gibson told reporters that the center fielder was dealing with a sore elbow for some time. He recently underwent an MRI that revealed a small tear in the fibers around his UCL.
This is certainly a blow for the D'backs -- who will also start the year without offseason acquisition Cody Ross. At this point, Arizona is set to enter the season with a starting outfield that includes Jason Kubel, Gerardo Parra and A.J. Pollock.
Eaton made his major league debut last season, hitting .259/.382/.412 with three doubles, two triples and two home runs over 103 plate appearances. He spent much of the year raking in Double- and Triple-A, posting a batting line of .375/.456/.523 with 47 doubles, seven home runs and 44 stolen bases in 55 attempts.
