Indians rumors: Cleveland shopping David Huff

The Cleveland Indians have told left-hander David Huff that he will not be make the team's Opening Day roster and that they will now attempt to trade him, according to Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer.

The Indians passed a similar message to outfielder Ezequiel Carrera, but they elected to designate him for assignment last night. Huff could face the same fate if Cleveland doesn't find a taker for the left-hander.

Perez ready?

The Indians closer expects to be in the bullpen Opening Day.

Huff started 23 games for the Indians as a 24-year-old in 2009, but he's since seen a diminished role in the majors. Last year he was limited to six appearances -- including four starts -- with Cleveland, posting an ERA of 3.38 over 26 2/3 innings.

Huff spent a majority of the 2012 campaign with Cleveland's Triple-A affiliate. Over 24 appearances -- 22 starts -- in the minors, the 28-year-old maintained an ERA of 4.97 with a strikeout-to-walk ratio (SO/BB) of 2.32.

Over parts of four seasons in the majors, Huff owns a career ERA of 5.30 with 1.62 SO/BB.
