Diamondbacks rumors: Cody Ross out 2-3 weeks

Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross will miss 2-3 weeks with an injury.

Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross will miss 2-3 weeks with a lower left leg strain, announced the team on their Twitter account.

Ross was signed late this offseason and was expected to fill the role of the recently-traded Justin Upton. This injury should not keep Ross from playing for the Diamondbacks on Opening Day, which is obviously the goal for him ultimately.

The injury will mean that Ross cannot run, but he should still be able to hit and throw according the the announcement.

Ross played last season for the Red Sox, having a big year and earning himself a 3-year contract with Arizona. He has also played for the Tigers, Dodgers, Reds, Marlins, and Giants. He was part of the 2010 World Series-winning Giants team, and played an integral role for them. The Giants originally claimed Ross to try and block him from division-rival San Diego, which made it all the more ironic.
