Red Sox injury notes: Craig Breslow, Franklin Morales

The Boston Red Sox could start the season with a pair of left-handed relievers, Craig Breslow and Franklin Morales, on the disabled list, reports Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe.

Manager John Farrell said today that he expects Breslow to begin the regular season on the DL. The left-hander arrived at camp with weakness in his throwing shoulder. He only recently started throwing on flat ground, and Abraham notes he's not "close to getting on the mound."

Farrell told reporters that Breslow is on an "every-other-day throwing program," and at this point it's hard to project that the reliever will be healthy by the end of spring training.

Morales made one exhibition appearance for the Red Sox this spring, but he was shut down after an inning of work due to lower-back pain. The left-hander responded well to anti-inflammatory medicine, but it's not clear if he'll have enough time to catch up and break camp with the club.

With Breslow and Morales questionable to start the season healthy, the Red Sox currently have a projected bullpen that includes closer Joel Hanrahan, setup men Andrew Bailey, Andrew Miller, Koji Uehara and Junichi Tazawa and long relievers Clayton Mortensen and Alfredo Aceves, according to Abraham.
