The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed left-handed starting pitcher Chris Capuano on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf muscle, according to Bill Shaikin of The Los Angeles Times.
More Dodgers: Kershaw second-fastest to get to 1,000
To replace Capuano on the roster, the Dodgers called up catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A.
Capuano suffered his injury Tuesday during his first start of the season. He was attempting to cover first base when he sustained the strain. He remained in the game, but he was ultimately removed the next inning.
The Dodgers were starting Capuano in place of injured right-hander Zack Greinke. Los Angeles is now expected to use fellow veteran left-hander Ted Lilly to replace Capuano.
LA entered the spring with what many considered too many pitchers. This surplus has steadily been whittled down to five starters for five rotation spots, following injuries to Capuano and Greinke and the trade that sent Aaron Harang to the Colorado Rockies. They are left with a staff that includes Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley, Josh Beckett, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Lilly.
