NL Central notes: Julio Borbon, Johnny Cueto, Mike Fiers

Here's the latest from the NL Central.

Cubbies claim Borbon

The Chicago Cubs claimed outfielder Julio Borbon off waivers from the Texas Rangers this afternoon. After designated Borbon for assignment to make room on the roster for Nick Tepesch, the Rangers were convinced they'd be able to trade the outfielder. However, he was ultimately placed on waivers, and the Cubs snatched him up.

No timetable for Cueto

The Cincinnati Reds don't have a return timetable set for right-handed starting pitcher Johnny Cueto. Cincinnati's ace was placed on the disabled list earlier this week, and the club isn't sure when he'll resume throwing. Initially, the Reds were hoping he'd only miss a few starts, but it looks like the lat strain could sideline him a bit longer than expected.

Crew demotes Fiers

The Milwaukee Brewers sent struggling starter Mike Fiers down to Triple-A and called up Hiram Burgos to take his place in the rotation. Fiers had a rough season debut -- allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings -- and Milwaukee opted to skip his turn twice and shift him to the bullpen. After he didn't show signs of improvement pitching in relief, the Brewers decided to send him packing.
