As of today the Red Sox are on top of the AL East, but the season is still young. Let's look at the news in baseball's best division.
O's demote Arrieta
The Orioles have demoted pitcher Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk today, as he has pitched poorly to start the season. Another reminder of the pitching prospects that were, Arrieta has never been able to stick in the Majors as an effective starter. He will likely always be bouncing between Baltimore and Norfolk. He and the other Orioles pitching prospects of the mid-to-late 2000s serve as a warning to any team looking to build around young pitching -- it's volatile.
Rays finalize minor moves
The Rays finalized their trades of Stephen Vogt and Robinson Chirinos today, receiving cash for the two minor-league catchers. For the Rays, adding some cash now could help them make a move later in the season if they need to, which could be a good under-the-radar April transaction. The team won't likely miss these two players, so it isn't like they surrendered much.
Teixeira taking his time
Mark Teixeia is taking his time in his recovery from injury, and with the early performance of the Yankee replacements he might be able to. After concern that the Yankees could sink early, it has to be relieving for him that he does not have to rush back to try and save the season.
