The Orioles were able to stay on top of the AL East last season by making constant roster moves, and they continued that pattern today.
O's option Britton, recall Snyder
The team announced via Twitter that they have optioned pitcher Zach Britton to Triple-A Norfolk, and recalled catcher Chris Snyder. Snyder is a solid back-up, and will provide that while the team needs their third catcher. They were concerned about their catching depth beyond Taylor Teagarden and Matt Wieters, but Snyder has been around the block (so-to speak) so he should be passable.
Britton, along with teammate Jake Arrieta, has a world of talent, but has yet to tap into it consistently. He is part of the generation of Orioles pitchers that were supposed to carry the franchise, but most of them have failed to do so.
The team also recalled right-handed pitcher Zack Clark.
Luis Exposito DFA'd, Steve Johnson optioned
The team also DFA'd catcher Luis Exposito, and sent down Steve Johnson after activating him from the disabled list. Johnson pitched well for the Orioles down the stretch last year, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that they recalled Clark instead of keeping Johnson on the roster. Exposito was the third catcher, so his DFA comes as a corresponding move to the recall of Chris Snyder.
