The Texas Rangers have received at least "a couple trade inquiries" on top prospect Jurickson Profar since news of shortstop Elvis Andrus' long-term contract extension leaked earlier this week, but the club still has "no intention or need" to trade the young infielder, reports Jon Heyman of MLB.com.

Profar, 20, is the No. 1 prospect in the game according to Baseball America, MLB.com, and several other publications, but doesn't appear to have a position available to him on the Rangers' current roster. The young middle infielder could eventually push second baseman Ian Kinsler to first base or left field, but Texas seems happy with the arrangement they have at the moment.

Baltimore is looking to jump onto the contract extension bandwagon, and has offered its catcher what is at least a five=year deal.
The switch-hitter will begin the year at Texas' Triple-A affiliate in Round Rock, so an idea about what the Rangers' plans are for his future could be gleaned from where he gets most of his playing time there once the minor-league season starts up. Profar got a very brief cup of coffee with the Rangers last September, and played a majority of his time at second base then, so perhaps the Rangers have already shown their hand.
Despite the Rangers' insistence that they do not intend to trade Profar, there is one tantalizing rumor that continues to be bandied about: the idea that Texas could trade Profar in a one-for-one swap with the St. Louis Cardinals for their top prospect, outfielder Oscar Taveras. Cards GM John Mozeliak weighed in on the Wednesday, telling MLB Network Radio that the deal would be a proposition he'd have to consider.
The Cardinals have a plethora of young corner outfielders but a massive hole at the shortstop position, so the Taveras-for-Profar swap makes some sense on a general level, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.
