Tribe likely to go with Bauer
The Cleveland Indians are expected to use top prospect Trevor Bauer to replace injured starting pitcher Scott Kazmir when they face off against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday.
Bauer lost out to Kazmir in the competition for the No. 5 spot in the Indians' starting rotation this spring, and as a result he was slated to begin the year in Triple-A. However, he wasn't included in the projected rotation for Cleveland's Triple-A club, signaling he could be joining the team this weekend.
Marshall dealing with arm fatigue
The Cincinnati Reds didn't use left-hander Sean Marshall over the first two games of the regular season. It turns out they've passed the southpaw over because he's dealing with fatigue in his throwing arm.
Marshall doesn't believe the ailment is serious, and he's hoping to be active for Friday's game.
Papa Grande returns
The Detroit Tigers signed right-hander Jose Valverde to a minor league contract. The new deal doesn't guarantee the Tigers' former closer a trip to the majors, and it allows the veteran to opt out of his contract on May 5.
General manager Dave Dombrowski said he had been in contact with Valverde for the past few weeks. While the Tigers were holding out for a minor league deal, Valverde was seeking something more guaranteed from his former club. In the end, Detroit won.
