Eduardo Nunez injury: Yankees INF exits after HBP

Yankees infielder Eduardo Nunez exited today's game after getting hit by a pitch by Tigers right-hander Doug Fister.

New York Yankees infielder Eduardo Nunez exited today's game after getting hit by a pitch by Detroit Tigers right-hander Doug Fister, according to Andy McCullough of The Star-Ledger.

McCullough notes that Nunez appeared to be in significant pain after he was hit in the right pectoral by an 88 mph fastball from Fister. He had to be helped off the field and has been replaced at shortstop by Jayson Nix.

Nunez was playing for injured Yankees' captain and shortstop Derek Jeter, who's going to be sidelined through at least the month of April due to his lingering ankle injury. McCullough notes that New York doesn't have another reserve shortstop on their current roster other than Nix.

If Nunez's injury is severe enough to require a stint on the disabled list, New York doesn't have many in-house options. Gil Velazquez plays short for the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, but he's not on their 40-man roster. McCullough notes that Corban Joseph is the only other middle infielder on New York's roster.
