The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed Will Harris off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, the A's have announced.
Harris was waived by the A's to make room on their roster for today's starter, Bartolo Colon. To clear a spot in their rotation for Colon, Oakland demoted Dan Straily to Triple-A.
The A's claimed Harris off waivers from the Colorado Rockies a few days ago. He appeared in three games with the Rockies this spring -- throwing three scoreless innings with a hit, walk and three strikeouts -- after making his major league debut last season. Over 20 appearances spanning 17 2/3 innings, the right-hander maintained an ERA of 8.15 with a strikeout-to-walk ratio (SO/BB) of 3.17.
Harris spent a majority of the season with the Rockies' Double- and Triple-A affiliates, posting an ERA of 2.08 over 44 appearances spanning 52 innings with 5.08 SO/BB. The 28-year-old owns a career ERA of 2.66 with 3.99 SO/BB over six seasons in the minors.
