It's been a hectic few weeks for journeyman reliever Dan Otero, but now the right-hander can finally settle down. After changing hands three times in the last two weeks, Otero has finally cleared waivers and been outrighted to the Oakland Athletics' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
More A's: Minor League Roster Time!
Otero, 28, had a very solid, stable pro career until the San Francisco Giants DFA-ed him two weeks ago. Over six seasons, the right-hander slowly worked his way up the Giants' farm system, finally being rewarded with two small cups of coffee in 2012 -- a 5.84 ERA in 12⅓ innings -- that made him a member of the 40-man roster.
Otero's two-week journey across the country and back started on March 26, when the Yankees claimed him off waivers from the Giants. The right-hander's tenure in pinstripes lasted just one day, as the club DFA-ed him 24 hours later to make room for another waiver claim, fellow right-hander Sam Demel.
The A's swooped in that same day to claim Otero off waivers for the second time in as many days, only to DFA him this past weekend to make room for catcher Stephen Vogt. With Otero finally settled in with a team and off the 40-man roster, he can now focus on getting himself back on it.
The right-hander owns a 3.00 ERA, 7.5 K/9, and 1.4 BB/9 in 99 innings over two-plus seasons at Triple-A.
