Drew aiming for Wednesday return
Shortstop Stephen Drew is set to rejoin the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, as he'll return from a concussion he sustained during spring training.
Drew was hit in the head with a pitch early last month, and he's been sidelined with concussion symptoms since. The Red Sox put him on the seven-day concussion disabled list to start the regular season, and they initially hope to activate him for today's home opener.
However, a minor league contest on Drew's scheduled rehab assignment was postponed, pushing the shortstop's return to Wednesday. Once he's back, the offseason acquisition will slide in as the team's regular shortstop, a role Jose Iglesias has been manning in his absence.
Jays claim Gomez, Gonzalez; DFA Bush
The Toronto Blue Jays claimed a pair of players today -- right-hander Edgar Gonzalez from the Houston Astros and infielder Mauro Gomez from the Boston Red Sox.
To make room on their roster for Gomez and Gonzalez, Toronto designated right-hander Dave Bush for assignment and moved right-hander Dustin McGowan to the 60-day disabled list.
