Athletics notes: Inuries, Otero, Vogt

Taking a look at the news surrounding the Oakland A's.

Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

The defending-AL West champion Oakland Athletics have been busy lately, so let's take a look at what they have been up to.

Reddick, Anderson injury updates

In what is always a scary proposition for a team like Oakland, two of their key players have gone down early with injuries. Starting pitcher Brett Anderson and outfielder Josh Reddick both received good news on their injuries, as both had negative X-rays. While both will be dinged up for the near-future, they should both be able to play without much interruption.

With Oakland being so young, as well as trying to repeat their breakout success last year in a tough division, it is certainly good news to hear that two key players are okay. Reddick provides them with much-needed pop in the line-up, and Anderson might be their best starting pitcher.

A's outright Otero

Reliever Dan Otero has been tossed around the waiver wire over the last few weeks, but it appears as though he can settle in with the Oakland organization. After passing through waivers to make it to Triple-A, he should provide the team with solid depth in their bullpen.

He owns very solid stats at Triple-A over the last few seasons, and if Oakland needs to bolster their bullpen at any point in the near-future, they can give him a shot.

Vogt to bolster catching depth

As previously mentioned, Oakland has been busy bolstering their depth this week. They added catcher Stephen Vogt from the Rays organization, and he should provide the team with a very solid depth option. They have surrendered a good amount of depth at this position over the last year or so, and adding some depth behind Derek Norris and John Jaso will certainly be a good thing for them.

Vogt has been known as a Triple-A masher, or a "quad-A player." The A's have been able to find diamonds in the rough in these kinds of players recently, so Vogt may become another example of that.
