MLB Scores and More:Adam Wainwright deals, Francisco Liriano is back, Joel Hanrahan is done

Blue Jays 3, Red Sox 2: A ninth inning home run from Adam Lind off Junichi Tazawa spoiled a late rally for the Red Sox to win it for the Blue Jays. In his first game against Toronto since commentator Jack Morris accused him of doctoring the ball, Clay Buchholz was excellent, going eight innings and allowing just two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four, but Mark Buerhle was even better, going seven and allowing just one run on five hits and two walks with five punch outs.

Pirates 11, Mets 2: Jose Tabata was a triple short of the cycle with four hits, three runs and three RBIs as the pirates shellacked the Mets. Pirates starter Francisco Liriano struck out nine in 5 1/3 innings, scattering six hits and allowing one run to earn the win in his first game with the Bucs.

Cardinals 3, Rockies 0: One day after Shelby Miller narrowly missed a perfect game Adam Wainwright tossed a complete game shutout of his own, allowing just two hits and one with seven strike outs. Allen Craig and Matt Adams powered the Cardinals offense with RBIs in the fifth and Yadier Molina added some extra insurance in the seven with an RBI single.

Giants 11, Braves 1: Madison Bumgarner didn’t need much help here; the lefty struck out eleven and allowed just one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings. He got plenty support, however, as the Giants line up put the hurt on Paul Maholm and the Braves mop up crew. Pablo Sandavol started the scoring with a solo home run in the first and Gregor Blanco plated four runs with a three-run double in the fifth and an RBI triple in the eighth.

Cubs 8, Nationals 2: Edwin Jackson got the best of his former club, earning the win with 5 1/3 innings of work and helping his own cause with a two run double off Stephen Strasburg in the fourth. Anthony Rizzo followed that up with a two-RBI single and Cody Ransom and David Dejesus lead the Cubs to a second four-run inning in the sixth.

Yankees 3, Royals 2: Andy Pettitte and Vernon Wells both channeled the year 2003 and handed James Shields another tough-luck loss. Wells two-run homer off Shields accounted for both earned runs off the Royals starter and Pettitte gave New York seven strong innings

Reds 14, Brewers 7: The Reds got to Brewers starter Hiram Burgos early and often, scoring five runs in the second and seven in the third to put this one out of reach for Milwaukee. Jay Bruce homered and hit two doubles to lead the Cincinnati attack.

Rays 8, Padres 7: Evan Longoria was the walk-off hero with a two-run home run in the ninth that spoiled the Padres come back.The Rays jumped out to an early lead against Burch Smith, chasing the Padres rookie out of the game with a six-run second San Diego rallied in the seventh, however, with a Jesus Guzman grand slam tying things up and an RBI walk from Carlos Quentin giving them a one-run advantage until Longoria’s blast.

Indians 7, Tigers 6: The Indians got an early lead, scoring two in the first and one in the second against Justin Verlander and kept adding to it with single runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth, giving them just enough to edge out the Tigers. Chris Perez kept things interesting, giving up a run in the ninth before stranding the tying run at second to record the save. Ublado Jimenez was solid for the tribe, going six innings and allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Angels 3, White Sox 2: Defensive miscues once again sabotaged the White Sox. Mike Trout hit a two run home run in the first inning and the Angels got another run when a Tyler Greene throwing error and a passed ball brought Albert Pujols in to score in the third. Jerome Williams gave the halos 6 2/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk to earn the win.

Twins 8, Orioles 5: Justin Morneau drove in three runs and Ryan Doumit hit a two-run blast for Minnesota to help give Vance Worley his first win of the season. Worley need the help too, the Twins starter allowed five runs and eleven hits in 5 1/3 innings with just one strike out.

Rangers 8, Astros 7: Erik Bedard out pitched Yu Darvish for five innings, allowing two-runs on four hits and striking out seven, but Texas took full advantage of his early exit, scoring six runs in the sixth of his replacement Phil Humber. Darvish hung around for seven innings allowing three runs, all coming of just two Matt Dominquez home runs.

Phillies 3, Diamondbacks 1: Cliff Lee held the Diamondback scoreless for seven innings and Jimmy Rollins drove in two runs to push the Phillies past the Diamondbacks. Charlie Manuel didn’t want to take any chances in this one. After Antonio Bastado struggled in the eighth he called in Jonathan Papelbon to record the five-out save.

Dodgers 7, Marlins 1: Andre Ethier went 4-4 and scored three runs and Skip Shumaker drove in three runs to lead the Dodgers offense. Hyun-Jin Ryu continues to look like the best bargain of the off-season, pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up just one run on five hits and three walks.

Athletics 4, Mariners 3: Josh Donaldson, Daric Barton and Brandon Moss all had solo shots in support of Jarrod Parker, who stopped a five-game skid for the Athletics with this win. Seattle got a two-run shot from Kelly Shoppach and an RBI single from Dustin Ackley of Parker, but couldn’t stage a comeback against the Oakland bullpen.

The Big Three

The Red Sox will lose closer Joel Hanrahan for the entire season after all. After hearing that he had tendon damage yesterday, Hanrahan has made the decision to undergo season-ending surgery on his right arm. Boston has had a horrible time finding someone to pitch the ninth since letting Jonathan Papelbon go after the 2011 season. Junichi Tazawa didn't do much to make his case for the job with his performance in the ninth yesterday either.

Injuries continue to plague the Blue Jays. Rajai Davis is the latest Blue Jays player to hit the DL and Brandon Marrow could join him if tests on his back give Toronto cause for concern. After spending big to bring in Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle and Emilio Bonifacio from the Marlins and R.A. Dickey from the Mets, the Blue Jays are just 14-24. Injuries have played their part, but under-performing players like Dickey, Johnson, Buerhle and Melky Cabrera deserve most of the blame.

Another would-be contender has been hit hard by injuries a continent away. The Los Angeles Dodgers have called up Scott Van Slyke to give them extra depth at first base in the wake of the injury to Jerry Hairston. L.A. currently has nine players on the DL, including three starting pitcher and two starting infielders.

In Other News...

The Tigers have activated Phil Coke from the 15 day DL. Coke was placed on the DL on April 26 with a groin strain.

The Athletics have called upJesse Chavez and options Evan Scribner to the minors
