Ortiz battling oblique tightness
Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is currently battling a mild oblique injury, and received a day off on Sunday to help him heal from the injury, per Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald. Ortiz described the injury as "a little bit of tightness in his left oblique," and blamed some of the struggles on the injury.
Ortiz looked well rested on Tuesday, as he cranked a three-run homer off Tampa Bay Rays starter Matt Moore in the first inning. The designated hitter also started on Wednesday against David Price, so the issue does not appear to be too serious.
Cabrera playing through leg injury
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera started on Wednesday despite undergoing an MRI that revealed irritation in his right quadriceps and left hamstring.
Blue Jays manager John Higgins put Cabrera back in the lineup before receiving the official results of the MRI. The injury did not hold Cabrera back on Tuesday, as the outfielder went 4-5 on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants.
Toronto won three straight games heading into Wednesday since Cabrera moved into the leadoff spot, with Cabrera going 6-for-13 over that stretch.
King Felix feeling better
Seattle Mariners starter Felix Hernandez felt better on Wednesday after leaving his start against the New York Yankees on Tuesday with a tight back, per Greg Johns of MLB.com. Hernandez tweaked his back fielding a grounder in the sixth inning, but managed to pitch the rest of the inning before being removed from the game.
Mariners manager Eric Wedge told the media that the ace is expected to make his next start, and will go through his normal preparation before the next start.
