The Marlins have reinstated shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria from the DL, and he is playing shortstop tonight for the Marlins, reports Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post.
The team also has selected the contract of outfielder Matt Diaz, and has designated Nick Green for assignment. They also optioned Brad Hand to Triple-A New Orleans.
For Marlins fans wondering why they should watch the team after the injury to Giancarlo Stanton, Hechavarria presents a flashy defensive shortstop who can make some dazzling plays up-the-middle. He was acquired as part of the super-trade with the Blue Jays, and is likely the team's shortstop of the future.
Green had become popular with fans over his brief stretch, but Hechavarria is the easy choice as to who should play shortstop. Diaz will provide the team with a good platoon bat off the bench against lefties.
