Hanley Ramirez injury: Dodgers place Ramirez on the DL

The team will recall Dee Gordon to take his spot on the 25-man roster

USA TODAY Sports

Update: The Dodgers will place Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day DL with a injured left hamstring, reported first by Jon Heyman. The team will recall Dee Gordon from Triple-A to fill Ramirez's roster spot.

Gordon is a former top prospect in the Dodgers system, but has yet to achieve sustained success at the major league level. The 25 year-old has hit .260/.299/.315 in 563 plate appearances over the past two seasons. Gordon has swung the bat well in Triple-A this season, hitting .314/.397/.431 with 14 stolen bases through his first 117 plate appearances.

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez left Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants with a left hamstring injury, the team announced on their Twitter feed. Ramirez exited in the sixth inning after injuring himself on an attempt to go first-to-third.

Dodgers' second baseman A.J. Ellis hit a single with Ramirez on first base, who slowed down between second and third base. Ramirez was thrown out on the play, and grabbed the back of his left leg above the knee. The shortstop attempted to limp off the field under his own power, but needed assistance to leave the diamond.

Ramirez had just returned from a broken thumb injury earlier this week. The 29 year-old had started the season well, hitting .455/.500/.909 in his first 12 plate appearances.

Justin Sellers replaced Ramirez in the lineup, and filled in for Ramirez at shortstop earlier this season. If Ramirez's injury is serious, Sellers will likely reclaim the starting shortstop role. Sellers struggled at the plate to start the season, hitting .200/.278/.262.
