NL East notes: Solano, Phils seek pitching

All the latest news and notes from the NL East.

Solano to the DL, Marlins recall Green

The Marlins have DLed Donovan Solano and recalled utility-man Nick Green. Solano was not doing very well, and Green will provide them with a useful guy who can play multiple positions. For a team that is so abysmal, a minor move like this is probably not too big in terms of news. Green has played for many teams in his career, and should help to steer some of the younger players on the Marlins in the right direction as the team as a whole continues to tailspin into last place.

Phils search for rotation help

The Phillies, in the wake of injury to their starting pitching rotation, are now searching for someone who can help their rotation in the long term as well as the short term. After trading away Vance Worley and Trevor May in the off-season for Ben Revere, the team is short on the pitching side and desperately needs help. Once a team that could pride itself on one of the most fearsome rotations in baseball, they are now reduced to a team that needs to scrap and fight to try and assemble a big league caliber rotation.

They have depleted their farm system in recent years to make trades for veterans, and they have struggled to replenish their system. They could deal players like Roman Quinn or Jesse Biddle in a potential move, but it will be tough for them to land a true impact player.
