Reds sign Matt Kennelly to minor league deal

After being released by the Braves last month, the Aussie catcher is joining the Reds organization.

The Cincinnati Reds have signed catcher Matt Kennelly to a minor league deal, according to a source. The 24-year old Aussie was released by the Atlanta Braves on May 14th after appearing in five games (.417/1 HR/4 RBI) for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Kennelly, who has spent his entire career in the Braves organization, has played in seven minor league seasons. For his career, he has hit .256 with 27 HR and 197 RBI in 490 minor league games.

After being hit by a pitch during spring training, Kennelly was sidelined for the first month of the season before making his debut on April 27th. Now healthy, he will either be assigned to Triple-A Louisville or Double-A Pensacola to provide catching depth in the Reds organization.
