Braves trade Erik Hamren to Rays for future considerations

The Atlanta Braves traded righty Erik Hamren to the Tampa Bay Rays for "future considerations", the team announced today. Hamren, who has pitched to a 2.55 ERA in 13 relief appearances with Double-A Mississippi so far this season, was signed by the Braves in April after being released by the Padres during spring training. In 14 major league appearances with San Diego in 2011, Hamren was 1-0 with a 4.38 ERA. He will be assigned to Double-A Montgomery.

Dodgers release Alfredo Amezaga

The Los Angeles Dodgers granted infielder Alfredo Amezaga his release Sunday after he exercised an out-clause in his contract, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. Amezaga, who hit .339 with 2 HR and 25 RBI with Triple-A Albuquerque this season, will sign with the Quintana Roo Tigres of the Mexican League, according to a source. In nine major league seasons with the Angels (2002-2004), Rockies (2005, 2011), Pirates (2005), Marlins (2006-2009, 2011), the 35-year old has posted a .247 career average with 12 HR and 110 RBI.

Somerset Patriots sign Alex Hinshaw

The Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League have signed left-hander Alex Hinshaw, according to a news release from the team. Hinshaw, who was released by the Blue Jays after posting a 3.27 ERA in 12 games for AAA Buffalo, has appeared in the majors with the Giants (2008-2009), Padres (2012), and Cubs (2012). In 90 career appearances, he is 3-2 with a 5.11 ERA.
