Padres release Edinson Rincon
The San Diego Padres announced that they have requested unconditional release waivers on infielder Edinson Rincon, who was designated for assignment on May 28th. The 22-year old, who has not appeared in a game yet this season due to injury, has not gotten past Double-A in his career and has hit .285 with 40 HR and 289 RBI in six minor league seasons in the Padres' system.
Diamondbacks sign Mike Jacobs
The Arizona Diamondbacks signed first baseman Mike Jacobs to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Reno, according to the Pacific Coast League's official transactions page. The 32-year old, who was released by the Mariners in March, has spent his 2013 season with the Guerreros de Oaxaca in Mexico, and has hit .275 with 10 HR and 30 RBI in 36 games. Jacobs returns to Reno where he appeared in 101 games in 2012, hitting .279 with 18 HR and 60 RBI as the team's starting first baseman. In seven major league seasons with the Mets (2005, 2010), Marlins (2006-2008), Royals (2009), and Diamondbacks (2012), Jacobs has hit .253 with 100 HR and 312 RBI. He replaces Kila Ka'aihue, who exercised the out-clause in his minor league deal over the weekend.
Rangers release Mark Teahen
The Texas Rangers released infielder Mark Teahen from Triple-A Round Rock, according to the Pacific Coast League's official transactions page. Teahen, who was signed by Texas twelve days ago following his release from the Diamondbacks, has hit .198 with 7 RBI in 32 games split between Reno and Round Rock. Dallas McPherson announces retirement
Former Angels, Marlins, and White Sox infielder Dallas McPherson has announced his retirement, according to multiple reports. The 32-year old, who was released by the Dodgers in spring training, recently signed with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League, but decided after three games that it was time to call it a career. McPherson retires with a career .241/18 HR/45 RBI line in 139 major league games.
Reds sign Shane Dyer
