Orioles outright Chris Snyder to AAA
The Baltimore Orioles outrighted catcher Chris Snyder to Triple-A Norfolk after he cleared waivers, according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com. The 32-year old was designated for assignment on Tuesday to make room for Taylor Teagarden, who was activated off the disabled list. Snyder, who arrived at spring training with the Nationals before opting out and signing with the Angels mid-way through camp, was acquired by Baltimore on April 28th to take the place of Teagarden. In six major league games with the O's, he hit .118 with 1 RBI in 20 plate appearances.
Orioles acquire Seth Loman from White Sox
The Orioles also acquired first baseman Seth Loman from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations, according to a tweet from MLB.com's Scott Merkin. The 27-year old, who will report to Norfolk, is hitting .223 with 8 HR and 19 RBI on the season with Triple-A Charlotte.
Indians sign Matt Colantonio
The Cleveland Indians announced that they signed catcher Matt Colantonio to a minor league deal. After one game with Triple-A Columbus, the 24-year old was sent to Single-A Mahoning Valley. Colantonio, a 22nd round pick of the Padres in 2011, has hit .260 with 33 RBI in 97 career minor league games.
Cale Iorg announces retirement
Minor league infielder Cale Iorg announced his retirement, via a tweet from his personal account. The former Tigers prospect, who has hit .145 with 1 HR and 6 RBI on the season for Double-A Bowie, signed a minor league deal with the Orioles in April after being released by Detroit. Over seven minor league seasons, Iorg hit .215 with 41 HR and 175 RBI, and was always a very strong defensive shortstop.
Mariners release Corey Patterson
The Seattle Mariners released 33-year old outfielder Corey Patterson from Triple-A Tacoma, according to the Pacific Coast League's official transactions page. Patterson, who was signed to a minor league deal on April 30th after being released by the Mets in March, hit .175 with 1 HR and 8 RBI in 19 games with Tacoma. In twelve major league seasons with the Cubs (2000-2005), Orioles (2006-2007, 2010), Reds (2008), Nationals (2009), Brewers (2009), Blue Jays (2011), and Cardinals (2011), Patterson is a lifetime .252 hitter with 118 HR and 431 RBI.
Mets release Landon Powell
The New York Mets released catcher Landon Powell from Triple-A Las Vegas, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. Powell, who was signed as a free agent in January, was hitting .159 with 2 HR and 3 RBI on the season for Las Vegas. The former first round pick (24th overall in 2004) hit .207 with 10 HR and 45 RBI in the majors with the Athletics from 2009 to 2011.
Camden Riversharks sign D'Angelo Jimenez
The Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League have signed former major leaguer D'Angelo Jimenez, according to atweet from general manager Adam Lorber. The 35-year old, who last appeared in the majors in 2007 with the Nationals, has a career .263/36 HR/228 RBI line in eight major league seasons.
Long Island Ducks sign Bill Hall
The Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League signed infielder Bill Hall, according to a tweet from general manager Michael Pfaff. Hall, who was released by the Angels last month, is a career .248 hitter with 125 HR and 440 RBI in 11 major league seasons.
