Giants trade rumors: Lincecum trade unlikely

San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum will likely stay put at the trade deadline, according to Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. Schulman cites a quote from Giants' general manager Brian Sabean:

"I find it hard to believe we'll see Timmy in another uniform this year."

While Sabean's words do not guarantee Lincecum's status with the Giants after July 31st, the general manager's willingness to publicly address the trade rumors signifies that a trade is very unlikely. While San Francisco never showed signs that they were willing to deal the two-time Cy Young winner, he has been drawing interest on the trade market. Many teams, including the Detroit Tigers, have expressed interest in acquiring Lincecum and using him as a reliever, according to FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi. The Boston Red Sox have also been linked to the 29-year old.

A Lincecum-to-Detroit deal is a "major longshot", according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, who also notes that Lincecum has a limited no-trade clause that allows him to block deals to eight teams. The Tigers and Red Sox are not among the teams on the list, according to Heyman.

While Lincecum's no-trade list is an interesting development, he will probably never have the chance to put it to use. The Giants are prepared to hold onto their former ace for the stretch run, and may look to re-sign him this winter when he is a free agent for the first time.
