Royals acquire Gorkys Hernandez from Marlins

The 25-year old heads to the fifth organization of his career.

The Kansas City Royals have acquired outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league shortstop Alex McClure, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. Hernandez will report to Triple-A Omaha.

After appearing in 25 games with the Pirates to begin the 2012 season, Hernandez was shipped to Miami at the trade deadline in exchange for Gaby Sanchez and Kyle Kaminska. In 45 games with the Marlins last season, he hit .212 with 3 HR and 11 RBI, and did not make the team out of spring training this season. He has spent the year with Triple-A New Orleans, where he has hit .275 with 4 HR and 22 RBI in 90 games.

McClure, 24, was the Royals' 11th round pick in the 2010 draft. He has spent the year split between Single-A Greensboro, High-A Wilmington and Double-A Northern Arkansas, hitting .219 with 17 RBI in 75 games. He is a skilled defensive player who has not been able to develop offensively as a professional.
