Royals sign Ben Broussard
The Kansas City Royals signed first baseman Ben Broussard to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Omaha, according to the Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton. The 36-year old has spent the season with the Atlantic League's Long Island Ducks, and hit .302 with 8 HR and 20 RBI in 44 games. In 705 major league games with the Indians (2002-2006), Mariners (2006-2007), and Rangers (2008), Broussard hit .263 with 87 HR and 314 RBI.
Luis Durango signs in Mexico
Outfielder Luis Durango has signed with the Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz of the Mexican League, MLBDailyDish's Chris Cotillo has learned. The 27-year old was recently released by the Reds after hitting .248 with 4 RBI in 30 games with Double-A Pensacola, and also spent time with the White Sox' Triple-A affiliate at the beginning of the season. In 39 games of major league action with the Padres (2009-2010) and Astros (2011), Durango posted a .292/.361/.292 line.
Dodgers outright Carlos Marmol to Triple-A
The Los Angeles Dodgers outrighted newly-acquired reliever Carlos Marmol to Triple-A Albuquerque after he cleared waivers, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports. The right-hander will go to Albuquerque in hopes of working his way back to the majors and helping out the Dodgers' major league bullpen after a few weeks of work.
