Indians trade rumors: Tribe looking at Garza, Gallardo

The Cleveland Indians are in search of a top-of-the-rotation pitcher and have had discussions about Matt Garza and Yovani Gallardo, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. While the Indians are relatively satisfied with the performance of their starting rotation, they are looking to add an ace at the deadline to pair with Justin Masterson.

Garza, 29, is likely to be traded in advance of the deadline even though he has discussed an extension with the Cubs in recent days. Many teams have shown interest, including the Rangers, Giants, Padres, Dodgers, Red Sox and Blue Jays, according to reports. The North Siders are known to be among the most willing sellers in baseball, and have already shipped Scott Feldman, Steve Clevenger, Carlos Marmol, Ronald Torreyes and Scott Hairston to new teams since July 1st.

Gallardo is less likely to be traded before the deadline, but will still draw strong interest from contenders looking for an ace. The 27-year old is being valued for his past performance instead of his struggles this season, which means the Brewers will likely ask for two or three top prospects in exchange for him. The Diamondbacks and Rockies are among the clubs with substantial interest in him to this point.

As MLBDailyDish's Chris Cotillo reported last month, the Indians are one of ten teams on Gallardo's no-trade list, meaning that the ace would have to approve any trade to Cleveland. As of this time, there is no indication on whether or not he would be willing to accept a deal to the Indians.

The Indians will most likely consider top prospect Francisco Lindor untouchable in trade talks, but could discuss pitchers Danny Salazar and Trevor Bauer with the Brewers and Cubs. They are not in search of lesser pitchers, but will definitely be interested if other top-of-the-rotation names become available before the deadline. For the right ace, expect the Tribe, who currently sit only 3.5 games out of first place in the AL Central, to exchange some future pieces for a chance to win this year.
