You have to feel bad for infielder Adam Rosales at this point. The 30-year old was just claimed off waivers by the Rangers for the second time in ten days, in what has become a crazy game of Ring Around the Rosales throughout the last two weeks.
After spending the entire season with the Athletics, Rosales was designated for assignment on July 31st to make room for the newly-acquired Alberto Callaspo.
Two days later, the Rangers claimed him off waivers and added him to their 25-man roster before he spent three days watching his new team play his old team in Oakland.
Once the series in Oakland was over, the Rangers designated Rosales for assignment, only to see him claimed by the A's three days later.
He got an at-bat during that three-day stint with Oakland, but the team had to designate him for assignment on Thursday to make room for starter Sonny Gray. Now he's headed back to the Rangers, in what should be the end of an intense game of human volleyball between the two top teams in the AL West.
If you've lost track at home, Rosales was designated for assignment by the Athletics, claimed by the Rangers, designated for assignment by the Rangers, claimed by the Athletics, designated for assignment by the Athletics and claimed by the Rangers--all in the course of thirteen days. Poor guy.
In 51 actual games with Oakland on the season, Rosales has hit .191 with 4 HR and 8 RBI. He has also spent 12 games with Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .280 with 1 HR and 7 RBI. He can play anywhere in the infield as well as left field, and will provide a versatile bench option for the Rangers or Athletics or whoever ends up with him when this is all over.
