Dodgers close to $32M deal with Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero

Puig Mania has already taken over Los Angeles, but another Cuban prospect is close to joining Puig with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are close to signing Cuban infield prospect Alexander Guerrero to a multi-year deal with a $32M according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.

The pact is expected to be between five and seven years. An official announcement is expected this week.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Guerrero is a veteran of Serie Nacional, the island's top league, and was an All-Star in 2010 and '11 with Las Tunas. He defected from Cuba earlier this year, established residency in Haiti and had been training in the Dominican Republic.

Guerrero was granted free agency by Major League Baseball in July, but did not secure an unblocking license from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which would allow him to sign with a Major League team, until last Friday.

Guerrero was part of a series of showcases in front of scouts at Dodgers' academy in the Dominican Republic back in July. In Cuba, Guerrero has shown off a bat with pop and speed on the base paths. He was left off the roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

In Cuba, Guerrero played a lot of shortstop, but is expected to play second base in the majors. He is considered by many as one of the top all-around players in Cuba.
