Brewers sign Mark Reynolds to minor league contract

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed infielder Mark Reynolds to a minor league contract that includes a spring training invite, according to an official announcement. According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, Reynolds will earn a base salary of $2 million if he makes the majors and can earn $500K in additional incentives.

Reynolds, who has reportedly been told that he is almost a lock to make the Brewers' major league roster, filling the first base void that the team has been working to fill since the departure of Corey Hart, who signed with the Mariners. Reynolds can also play third base, providing a depth option behind Aramis Ramirez.

Reynolds, 30, recently drew significant interest from the Orioles, Twins, Yankees, Rangers, Nationals and Rangers, according to Heyman, but ultimately decided that the best opportunity for him would be in Milwaukee. The Yankees, with whom he spent the last month and a half of last season, were long-rumored to be the favorite to land Reynolds.

In 135 games split between the Indians and Yankees last season, Reynolds hit .220 with 21 HR and 67 RBI in 445 at-bats. He is the owner of a lifetime .233 average with 202 HR and 568 RBI in seven major league seasons with the Diamondbacks (2007-2010), Orioles (2011-2012), Indians (2013) and Yankees (2013).
