The Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Liam Hendriks from the Royals, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. Minor-league catcher Santiago Nessy will go to Kansas City in the deal, according to a team announcement.
Hendriks, 25, was designated for assignment by the Royals last week to make room for Moises Sierra, who was claimed off waivers from the White Sox. The right-hander was originally sent from Toronto to Kansas City as part of a trade at the deadline, and made six appearances (three starts) with the Royals at the major league level.
In 32.2 major league innings in 2014, Hendriks posted a 1-2 record and 5.23 ERA, but his minor league stats (12-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 143.1 innings) are much better. The former Twin has been property of five different organizations in the last calendar year, and will likely serve as rotation depth for the Blue Jays next season.
Nessy, 21, split the season between Single-A Lansing and High-A Dunedin. In 69 games, he hit a combined .231/.313/.332 with a home run and 28 RBI.
