Pablo Sandoval rejects qualifying offer, not expected to land with Yankees

The third baseman has also been linked to the Giants, Marlins and Red Sox recently.

Free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval has rejected the Giants' qualifying offer, a major-league source has confirmed. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com was first to report the news this morning.

Sandoval's rejection comes as no surprise, as the third baseman is reportedly looking for a nine-figure contract on the open market. Sources indicate that the interest in Sandoval has been "strong" over the first few days of free agency, but it is unclear which teams have been most aggressive.

Sandoval and the Giants have expressed mutual interest in a reunion, especially after the slugger helped lead the team to its third World Series championship in five seasons last week. The Red Sox, Yankees and Marlins have also been linked to Sandoval in recent rumors, but New York now seems like a less likely destination. According to Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News, the Yankees are unlikely to pursue Sandoval and are instead focused on retaining Chase Headley, who they have been negotiating with.
