Rays, Padres, Nationals progressing towards Wil Myers trade

The teams seem to be closing in on a deal that would involve up to ten players.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Almost 24 hours after news first broke of discussions between the Rays and Padres about a Wil Myers trade, the teams are still discussing possible deals and are expected to come to a conclusion soon. The Padres are likely busy discussing the results of Matt Kemp's physical to see if that deal will go through, so a Myers trade may come together quickly once the team makes a decision on Kemp.

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays have narrowed it down to two scenarios involving Myers and are waiting to hear if the Nationals are willing to get involved or not. Topkin and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com went on to explain each scenario in detail, revealing these two potential outcomes:

IF NATIONALS ARE INVOLVED:
Rays get: C Rene Rivera, RHP Burch Smith, 1B Jake Bauers, OF Steven Souza, LHP Travis Ott
Padres get: OF Wil Myers, C Ryan Hanigan, LHP Jose Castillo
Nationals get: RHP Joe Ross, SS Trea Turner

IF NATIONALS ARE NOT INVOLVED:
Rays get: C Rene Rivera, RHP Burch Smith, 1B Jake Bauers, RHP Joe Ross, SS Trea Turner
Padres get: OF Wil Myers, C Ryan Hanigan, 2 low-level minor leaguers

At this point, the final trade seems to depend on two things: the outcome of Kemp's physical and the Nationals' decision on whether to pull the trigger on a deal that would send Souza and Ott to Tampa for Turner and Ross. Regardless of what happens, it looks like we are finally coming towards a resolution on the deal.
