Marlins sign Jeff Baker to 2-year, $3.7 million deal

The Miami Marlins have agreed to a two-year, $3.7 million deal with outfielder Jeff Baker, according to a baseball source with knowledge of the situation. Baker will earn $1.6 million in 2014 and $2.1 million in 2015, and can earn an additional $500K in each season with incentive clauses.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com was first to report the agreement, with Joel Sherman of the New York Post first noting that Baker will receive $3.7 million in guaranteed money.

Baker, who also drew interest from the Nationals and Orioles in recent days, provides versatility for Miami after appearing at first base, second base, third base, left field and right field with the Rangers in 2013. He is likely to see consistent playing time, but it is unclear where he will play for the Marlins.

In 74 games last season, Baker hit .279 with 11 HR and 21 RBI. In nine major league seasons with the Rockies (2005-2009), Cubs (2009-2012), Tigers (2012), Braves (2012), and Rangers (2013), he has hit .267 with 48 HR and 199 RBI.
