The Texas Rangers have acquired outfielder Dan Robertson from the San Diego Padres for cash considerations, according to a team announcement. Although Robertson has never appeared in the majors and was at Triple-A El Paso for the Padres, he was added to the Rangers' active roster and will be available for tonight's game in Oakland.
Robertson, who was selected by the Padres in the 33rd round of the 2008 draft, hit .364 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in five games to begin the season with El Paso. The 28-year old has spent the last two seasons at Triple-A, hitting .302 with 2 HR, 38 RBI and 18 steals in 2012 and .285 with 2 HR, 53 RBI and 23 steals last season.
Robertson will become the Rangers' fifth outfielder behind Shin-Soo Choo, Leonys Martin, Alex Rios and Michael Choice. With Choo dealing with some ankle issues, Robertson could see some time in left field in the near future. Because he has never seen major league action before, he has options remaining, and can be sent to Triple-A Round Rock at any time.
