The St. Louis Cardinals are close to signing left-hander Pedro Feliciano to what will likely be a minor league deal, according to a baseball source. As Steve Nations of KSDK Sports reported on Friday, Feliciano has been working out for the Cardinals at their spring training facility in Jupiter in hopes of landing a contract after throwing live batting practice and a simulated game to hitters.
Feliciano, who turns 38 in August, was 0-2 with a 3.97 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the Mets last year after signing with the club at the end of spring training. He has appeared in parts of nine seasons with the Mets, totaling a 22-21 record and 3.33 ERA in 484 career appearances.
The Cardinals' bullpen has struggled a bit so far this season, ranking 21st in the majors in ERA with a 4.11 mark. Chief among those struggles has been left-hander Randy Choate, who has posted a 6.39 ERA in sixteen appearances, leading to the Cardinals considering external options for left-handed relief help.
