Mike Moustakas trade rumors: Royals have been contacted by 3 teams

The Royals "still believe" in Moustakas, but if a trade offer came a long that could help them catch the Tigers, they might have to consider it.

The demotion of third baseman Mike Moustakas has prompted at least three teams to contact the Royals about acquiring the former prospect. The New York Post's Joel Sherman writes that while Kansas City general manager Dayton Moore "still believe[s] in Moustakas," a trade market for the 25-year-old is developing.

Moustakas has been a force for the Royals' Triple-A affiliate in Omaha throughout his career. In 107 career games, he has hit .290/.331/.531 with 25 homers and 92 runs batted in as a Storm Chaser. Sherman posits that Moustakas "might be a change of scenery guy," and while Omaha technically fits that description, we'll have to assume he was referring to the reported trade interest.

The Royals have never been quick to give up on their guys, and the organization has been hyping Moose in the form of billboards and television commercials since before his initial promotion to the majors -- so it seems unlikely that the team would admit defeat now. However, the Royal;s are in a position to compete this year, and if an offer came along that they thought would help them immediately, they may have to seriously consider moving on from their former first round pick.

It seems as though Kansas City has attempted to fix Moustakas several times since he was originally called up in 2011. Their approach hasn't worked. In 1632 career plate appearances, he has batted just .236/.290/.379.
