The Oakland Athletics claimed outfielder Nick Buss off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a team announcement. Buss was immediately optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.
Buss, 27, was designated for assignment last week by the Dodgers after hitting .261 with 1 HR and 16 RBI in 26 games with Triple-A Albuquerque to begin the season. He appeared in eight major league games with the Dodgers last season, going 2-for-19 (.105) at the plate while appearing at all three outfield positions.
Buss, who was selected by the Dodgers in the eighth round of the 2008 draft, is a lifetime .284 hitter with 55 HR and 358 RBI in parts of seven minor league seasons at five different levels. He was at Triple-A for almost all of last season, hitting .303 with 17 HR and 100 RBI in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
Buss joins Michael Taylor, Kent Matthes, Shane Peterson and Jake Goebbert in the outfield mix for Sacramento.
