Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig slammed into the outfield wall in Miami on sunday attempting to catch what was the game-winning hit in the ninth inning. Puig was down for some time after the collision. When asked where he was injured, the 23-year-old pointed to several areas of his body, including his head.
The results of his concussion tests came back negative -- which is pleasant news for the the Dodgers and anyone that values the general health of their fellow man.
Puig is hitting .309/.397/.500 with four home runs and four stolen bases. He's been the most productive player in the Dodgers' crowded outfield by far, and while he could have been placed on the relatively new 7-day DL, the team is in a better position with him resting for a day or two on the active roster.
With Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford, and Scott Van Slyke on the roster as well, the Dodgers will be able to handle a brief absence from Puig, but apart from Van Slyke crushing lefties, the outfield has been something of a disappointment.
Puig's famous recklessness will result in minor injuries like this from time to time, and perhaps extended stays on the disabled list at some point, but his style of play is part of the reason he's successful. The Dodgers will likely continue to attempt to whittle away at the negative aspects of his "Wild Horse" eccentricities.
