Marlins sign Alex Sanabia to minor league deal

The Miami Marlins have agreed to sign right-hander Alex Sanabia to a minor league deal, according to an industry source. Sanabia, who was released by the Diamondbacks on Monday, will report to Triple-A New Orleans.

Before being claimed off waivers by the D-Backs in October, Sanabia spent his entire pro career in the Marlins' organization. He was a 32nd round pick in 2006, and spent more than four seasons in the team's minor league system before breaking into the major leagues in 2010. In 28 major league appearances (24 starts) since 2010, Sanabia is the owner of a lifetime 8-10 record and 4.15 ERA in 138.2 innings of work. He made ten starts for Miami in 2013, notching a 3-7 record and 4.88 ERA.

Sanabia struggled mightily in eight appearances (four starts) with Triple-A Reno this season, alllowing 21 earned runs in 23.1 innings for an 8.10 ERA. He will head to Triple-A New Orleans in hopes of breaking back into the majors with the Marlins.
