Indians trade rumors: Blue Jays, Giants in discussions for Asdrubal Cabrera

Teams are looking at Cabrera as a second baseman, according to reports.

After trading Justin Masterson to the Cardinals this morning, the Indians may not be done selling. Cleveland has been in discussions with the Giants and Blue Jays about deals involving Asdrubal Cabrera this week, according to Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com.

Cabrera, 28, has hit .249/.308/.390 in 96 games as the Indians' shortstop this season and is a free agent after the season. The Indians are not expected to re-sign him because top prospect Francisco Lindor is slated to take over at shortstop for next season, so moving him now for a prospect or two may be the team's smartest plan.

According to reports, the Jays and Giants are looking at Cabrera as a second baseman, and he would provide an immediate upgrade over what the teams have now at second base. He has not appeared at the position since 2009, but could slide over from his familiar spot and help a contender if he is moved before tomorrow's 4 p.m. deadline.
