The Marlins, Pirates and Royals are among the teams with interest in Padres' right-hander Ian Kennedy, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. At this point, it is no sure thing that San Diego will deal Kennedy, with one source describing the likelihood of a deal at "50/50" earlier in the week.
Kennedy, 29, has also been linked to the Angels and Yankees in trade rumors this month and is considered a second-tier trade candidate behind Jon Lester, John Lackey, David Price and Cole Hamels. The righty has a 3.66 ERA on 22 starts on the year and is under team control through next season, meaning he would be a valuable trade chip for the Padres to shop to contenders.
Miami has been linked to names like Lackey, John Danks and Tommy Milone on the market, and are expected to be aggressive in their pursuit of a starter. Although pitching prospect Domingo German was pulled from his game with Single-A Greensboro after only three innings tonight, sources indicate that he plans to only throw three innings in each of his outings for the remainder of the year in order to conserve innings, meaning that a trade involving him does not appear to be happening.
