In the wake of the Athletics' acquisition of left-hander Jon Lester, the team is getting "flooded" with calls about Jason Hammel, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
The A's right-hander, acquired along with Jeff Samardzija in a blockbuster deal on July 5, has struggled since going to Oakland, posting an 0-4 record and a 9.53 ERA over four starts. With the team's trade for Lester, the A's now have six viable starters, with Sonny Gray, Scott Kazmir and Jesse Chavez in addition to Samardzija, Hammel and Lester.
As Rosenthal wrote, the A's weren't planning to trade Hammel, but with his rough stretch of starts and the presence of five other starters on the team, the right-hander appears to be the odd man out, and contending teams are trying to pounce.
