UPDATE: Houston will receive minor-league third baseman Cesar Carrasco in exchange for Carrasco, according to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle. Carrrasco, 20, is currently with Low-A Hillsboro and has a lifetime .256 average in 127 minor league games over the last three seasons. He was not ranked among the D-Backs' top 30 prospects by Baseball America.
The Astros and Diamondbacks have completed a trade that is sending left-hander Alex Sogard to Arizona, according to major league sources. There is no word yet on other pieces involved in the deal, or if it involves major league players.
Sogard, drafted in the 26th round of the 2010 draft, is 1-1 with a 2.91 ERA in 25 relief appearances with Double-A Corpus Christi this season. He is the brother of Athletics' infielder Eric Sogard, and has a career 4.05 ERA in five seasons in the Astros' organization. He was not ranked as one of Houston's thirty best prospects by Baseball America before the season.
At this point, Sogard could be one piece headed to the D-Backs in a significant trade, or may just be part of a minor deal similar to the one the Astros swung last week when they sent Andrew Robinson to the Braves. Stay tuned for updates throughout the night.
