Indians sign Scott Atchison to one-year extension

The reliever will return to Cleveland for next season.

The Indians have agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract extension with reliever Scott Atchison that includes a $1 million club option for 2016, as MLB.com's Jordan Bastian first reported. The deal will pay Atchison $900K in guaranteed money next season, with the team holding the $1 million option or $100K buyout for 2016.

Atchison, 38, is 6-0 with a 2.95 ERA, 6.1 K/9 and 4.11 K/BB ratio in 55 innings on the season after signing a minor league deal last offseason. He has been a consistent performer throughout his major league career with the Mariners (2004-2005), Giants (2007), Red Sox (2010-2012), Mets (2013), and Indians (2014), posting a lifetime 3.51 ERA in 310 innings. His new deal with the Indians is a large guarantee for him, as he has made approximately $2.8 million in the majors since being drafted by the Mariners in the 49th round of the 1998 draft.
