Miami Marlins superstar and franchise player Giancarlo Stanton left Thursday night's game after being struck in the face with a pitch from Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers.

The scene itself was horrific, as Stanton was clearly in pain. The following Vine is not pleasant to see:

And the story doesn't end there. Stanton was ruled to have swung on the pitch, and Reed Johnson replaced him as the batter:
And now Fiers drills the pinch-hitter for Stanton, Johnson in the hand. And benches clear in Milwaukee.

So, Marlins have had two hitters struck by pitches but both were called swings and so that is the inning. Ump Jeff Kellogg now warns teams.

Stanton has been in conversations with the Marlins on a franchise record-breaking deal, and was hitting .288/.395/.555 for the season. We will update as more information becomes available.
