After reportedly expressing interest in Denard Span and Travis Snider, the Kansas City Royals have also checked in on Gerardo Parra. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe suggested that losing both Ben Zobrist and Alex Gordon could force the issue for Dayton Moore.
Parra's defense took a tumble this past season where he became a below replacement player in the outfield. By DRS Parra cost his team a total of 10 runs and UZR was even more pessimistic suggesting he actually cost 17.7 runs.
Parra's breakout season of 2013 is seeming distant now, however, during his time with the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles last season he posted a wRC+ of 108. That's actually the best mark of his career. After being traded mid-season for the past two seasons, perhaps stability could get the 28 year old outfielder back on track.
The Royals have also been linked to acquiring Jackie Bradley Jr. via trade. While he is rumored to be available, Bradley would be most effective in center field and the Royals already have an MVP-candidate stationed there in Lorenzo Cain. Regardless, Moore needs to stay savvy and perform his due-diligence if Gordon and Zobrist do in fact depart via free agency.
